The Libertarian Party is the "Party of Principle."

The dictionary defines Principle as...  "a comprehensive and fundamental law, doctrine, or assumption;  a rule or code of conduct;  habitual devotion to right principles <a person of principle>; the laws or facts of nature underlying the working of an artificial device."

As a Libertarian,  I am "habitually devoted" to the principles that the United States was founded on...  personal freedom, individual responsibility, and limited government as stated in the Constitution of the United States and Bill of Rights.

Please take the time to review the Texas Libertarian Party Platform and the National LP Platform, to greater understand my position on the critical issues of today.

Additionally, I would like to share my personal stance on the important issues.  Please find below a few brief comments on the isues of most importance to me.

Healthcare
The Federal Government has no business being involved in healthcare in any way.  The current healthcare bill must be overturned.   Further, in order for the US to maintain its system of excellent care (and to make all healthcare more affordable), the Government intrusions into the free healthcare market must be lessoned... Medicaid and Medicare must  be reformed with more free market ideals now!

Taxes

The Federal Income Tax is a penalty or punishment placed upon all working Americans.  A tax on income only serves to de-motivate and de-moralize those who work hard to better themselves.    Operating revenue for the Federal Government should come from other sources.  One alternative is a consumption tax, implemented through a national sales tax.

The Economy
Too much federal Tax burden, coupled with too many regulatory restrictions on businesses in the US has contributed a great deal to the current economic "down-turn."   I will work to return America to what made us great: Capitalism and Free Markets.  Businesses must have "freedom of maneuver" to rapidly react to changes in supply in demand in order to be profitable and continue to take care of their employees.  Government restrictions and burdensome paperwork prevent companies from being able to take care of their customers in the most effective manner.

War and Foreign Policy

The U.S. Constitution clearly states that the Army should be used for the defense of the United States.   Granted, sometimes the best defense is a good offense.  We have no Constitutional justification to be fighting in Iraq and should withdrawal ALL of our forces as quickly as possible.   The goal in Afghanistan should be to totally disable those who attacked us, and then remove our forces.   We do not have the money to be involved in "nation building."

Border Security and Immigration Reform
We must secure our borders now. A nation without secure borders is no nation at all. It makes no sense to fight terrorists abroad when our own front door is left unlocked.  One way to provide the security is using the U.S. Armed forces in manner that the Constitution states.   Once the borders are 100% secure, Immigration Reform can be started.   The goal of this reform should be a Free Labor Market.  In other words, anyone that wants to come to the U.S. to work, and there is a sponsoring person or business that needs that labor, they should be allowed to immigrate freely and become a citizen quickly.   Additionally, birth-right citizenship should be abolished.

The Second Amendment
I share our Founders' belief that in a free society each citizen must have the right to keep and bear arms.

Property Rights and Eminent Domain
We must stop special interests from violating property rights and literally driving families from their homes, farms and ranches.  The United States was founded on property rights.  We cannot allow the government to erode this foundation.

Privacy and Personal Liberty
The biggest threat to your privacy is the government. We must drastically limit the ability of government to collect and store data regarding citizens’ personal matters.  Threats to personal liberty include unlawful search and siezures (currently authorized under the PATRIOT Act), and the government's attempt to legislate morality via so called "vice laws."

Finally, I would like to share my pledge to introduce or co-sponsor, and then work for the passage of the following bills, as written and presented at Downsize.DC.org:

The Read the Bills Act
The One Subject at a Time Act
The Write the Laws Act
The Free Competition in Currency Act
The Enumerated Powers Act
The Fiscal Responsibility Act
